These are some lanterns I made for my daughters first birthday last year, I have the tutorial somewhere in my computer that I will post later but everything was a dollar ,the vases,tissue papper ,construction paper and double sided tape, and the battery operated tea lights.
I made this last year, bought the small vase at the dollar store as well as the candle stick holder. I crazy glued it because that's what I had on hand but there are better glues out there where you don't have to hold it for a few minutes,like the E5000 glue or any type in their line works great too.
