Bird Houses

The Spring boutique is getting closer and I am starting to stress aaahhh, but I am also very excited.
The weather up here has been really cold with rain, slush, snow and some more rain. Further up the mountain there is a lot of snow. We usually go for a hike to Mt. Pinos on the trails but it is cloudy and too cold so maybe tomorrow or Wednesday we can go.

As for right now, I am stuck indoors which is perfect and gives me no excuse to do other things and stick to my schedule and get a lot done. With cleaning, cooking, taking care of my little girls needs I have to put some time in there for my things.

How I keep her busy when I am working is giving her scraps of paper and glue or some thread and scraps of fabric. That usually keeps her occupied for a good 30 minutes, yeah not very long,so then I have to give her something else to do while I try to finish. She usually asks me "mommy can I help you". In most cases I let her but for these things I am making to sale at the spring boutique I have to explain to her she can not, but she can help me by making pieces of her own art.

So far I have items half way done like these cute little bird houses that I just painted the roofs and I let them dry over night and then I left for the weekend to my parents house and they stayed like this, so now I have to go and finish them while Makenzie is watching her dad play his video game.

Upcycled Tin Cans

Next time before throwing out a soup can think about the ideas you can do with them. I usually put the medium to larger size cans aside. I usually just run them through hot soapy water and add the blue dawn soap to remove the labels. But there is always sticky glue left so my trick is to use household items. All you need is equal parts cooking oil of any kind and baking soda and just rub the cans and let it sit for a few minutes. At this point I go do other things like fold laundry and then i come back to them. Then I just use a wire sponge or regular sponge. The oil helps losen up the residue and the baking soda acts like an abrassor and this works well with glass jars too. These tin cans I let my daughter paint and she planted her own flowers in them. It's a way to teach her a little responsinility by watering her plants daily and keep her busy.

DIY Garden sign using reclaimed wood

I have been gone for a while, focussing on myself and my little family. I am back and happier than I could be. I have been doing a lot of cleaning outside from it being so windy up here these past couple of months, there was a lot of branches and leafs every where, but now it's nice and sunny and warm. That said I'd like to share one of my many projects that i have been waiting to do.

I gave it a quick painting with white spray paint. i just sprayed across once really quick and i gave it a light sanding to give it more of an older look. Then
I wrote
"mommy's garden" with a pencil and i painted it in with acrylic paint, then
I just nailed it to that wood pole.

Thrift store find

So here is the finished painted mini rocking horse I had posted a couple weeks ago. I had a hard time with this one because I couldn't figure out what colors to use on it. So I went on Pinterest to get some color ideas and work with colors I already have, and this is what I came up with.

Upcycled jars

Another upcycled project. I love reusing things we normally throw out.
1.Supplies
2.Any type of jar with lid
3.Metallic acrylic paint or Metallic spray paint
4. Something to use as a knob for lid. I used these plastic diamond jewels from the dollar tree.
5. E6000 GLUE or something strong to bind the knob to lid.
