Pinecone picking

We went for a hike to Pine Mountain about 10 minutes from our house. It wasn't too cold but it was still a bit chill. But we made our way up and gathered some pinecones. We use them as fire.starters especially the ones with the sap on them are really good. But I definitely use them for crafting and this year we picked more than last. I will probably be going back for some more if I need them. The whole family went including our silly lab dog Abby. We had so much fun and my little girl was climbing rocks with daddy, but it started to get foggy so we had tl start heading back.
On the other note to clean them I set the oven at 200° and I placed partchment paper on cookie sheets and placed the pinecones on top and baked them for about 20 minutes to kill off any critters living inside.
And that is it,you can also soak them in water if they have any dirt and let them air dry for a couple days so they open back up.
